Chicago-based act JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound received a fair bit of Internet attention a couple of years back with its cover of Wilco’s “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.” The fresh, snappy cover version was a good example of everything that the band is known for: taking the old classics and making them new again. The band is well-dressed and flashy, with equal parts of Otis Redding’s brass and David Bowie’s ass. Pulling from both Motown’s contagious qualities and punk rock’s flippant attitude, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound sets the perfect soundtrack for you to break out your down-and-dirty dance party moves.

Get the Worm: The opening act is another Windy City band, Bailiff, which has earned its place as a favorite touring act here in town after a series of well-received shows. Arrive on time and be delighted.
